01How to choose the right canvas print size

Start with the furniture, not the wall. A canvas should be roughly two-thirds as wide as the piece it hangs above, with a little wall space left on either side. So a 200 cm sofa calls for a canvas around 120–130 cm wide — our largest 48 x 66 size — and a 100 cm console table works with a 24 x 36 or 30 x 40 print. Once you have that number, pick the closest of our eight standard sizes — 8 x 12, 12 x 18, 18 x 24, 20 x 30, 24 x 36, 30 x 40, 36 x 48 and 48 x 66. When you are torn between two sizes, size up: a slightly larger canvas reads as intentional, while one that is too small can look like an afterthought.

03Small spaces: 8 x 12 to 12 x 18

Compact canvases are the workhorses of small rooms. In a bathroom, a single 8 x 12 print above the towel rail adds colour without fighting a mirror or a window. In an entryway, a 12 x 18 canvas beside the door gives guests something to look at the moment they step in. Kitchens and hallways are another sweet spot: hang a 12 x 18 above a counter, a sideboard, or a narrow console. Above a desk, a 12 x 18 piece fills the gap between the monitor and the top of the wall without dominating the space. These smaller sizes are also ideal for shelves and ledges, where they can lean against the wall or stand in a row with plants and books.

04Mid-size rooms: 18 x 24 to 24 x 36

This is the range most Indian homes reach for, and with good reason. An 18 x 24 canvas suits a bedroom side wall, an office wall behind the chair, or a dining nook; it is large enough to anchor a space but small enough to leave the room feeling airy. A 20 x 30 print works beautifully above a narrow console, sideboard, or TV unit in the living room. For the most asked-about spot of all — above a sofa — the right size depends on the sofa: a 24 x 36 canvas suits furniture around 90 cm wide, such as a single bed headboard or a narrow sideboard, while a full three-seater calls for our largest 48 x 66. If you are decorating a single wall in a compact flat, 18 x 24 to 24 x 36 is the safest starting range.

05Large spaces: 30 x 40 to 48 x 66

Big rooms reward big art. A 30 x 40 canvas holds its own above a large sideboard or in a dining room, while a 36 x 48 piece fills a generous living-room wall or the tall stretch beside a staircase. For statement walls and wide accent walls, 48 x 66 is the showstopper — a single piece that behaves like a whole gallery installation. As a rule of thumb for large walls, let the canvas cover at least half the wall width and leave even margins around it, so the wall reads as intentional rather than overstuffed. When you are unsure between two large sizes, pick the larger one: an oversized canvas in a big room never looks out of place, but an undersized one almost always does.

07Single canvas or a set?

One bold canvas is the most direct way to fill a wall, but a set of matching prints can do something a single piece cannot — spread across a wider wall and balance a long furniture line. For a two-seater sofa or a narrow bed, a horizontal triptych of three 12 x 18 canvases covers roughly the same width as a single 36 x 48, while adding rhythm and movement. A pair of same-size prints works well above a console or a bed. If you go with a set, keep the frames identical, space the pieces evenly, and treat the group as one unit — the total width should still follow the two-thirds rule for the furniture beneath.

08Portrait or landscape?

All eight of our sizes are portrait, meaning they are taller than they are wide — the classic single-artwork shape that suits sofas, beds, consoles, and side walls. A portrait canvas works beautifully in hallways and stairwells too, where it draws the eye up and makes a narrow space feel taller. If your wall is wider than it is tall and you want a horizontal look, the honest solution is a set: two or three matching portrait prints hung side by side deliver the landscape effect without compromising print proportions. Decide on orientation first — it narrows your options and makes the size choice much easier.

09A simple measuring trick

You do not need a design degree to size a canvas. Measure the width of the furniture beneath the wall — a sofa, bed, console, or sideboard — then aim for a canvas that is roughly two-thirds of that width. For a 200 cm sofa that is around 130 cm, which matches our largest 48 x 66 size. Then check the height: the top of the canvas should sit at least 15 cm below the ceiling and the bottom about 15–25 cm above the furniture. If a single canvas cannot cover the width, a horizontal pair or a set of three equally spaced prints is a clean, modern alternative.
